Cast Your Line and Reel in Crappie Perfection at Oologah Lake!
Heading out on the Oologah Lake for a day of crappie fishing with Boyd and the crew was exactly what I needed to kick off the season. May is prime time for crappie fishing in these parts, with the fish actively feeding in the warming waters. We met up bright and early at the Spencer Creek Campground, ready to tackle the lake and see what the day had in store.
As soon as we hit the water, we started working the depths with a mix of jigging and trolling techniques, hoping to locate some of those tasty white and black crappie. It didn't take long before the rods started bending, and the action was steady throughout the day. Boyd was a natural, working the light tackle like a pro and boating some real nice crappie. We had a blast watching those fish come over the gunwale, their bright silver and black colors flashing in the sunlight. In addition to the crappie, we also managed to hook into a few nice white crappie, adding some variety to the day's catch.
Even on the slower bites, the energy on the boat was great. The crew kept the conversation lively, swapping stories and tips as we worked different areas of the lake. That's one of the best parts about these crappie trips—it's not just about the fishing, but the whole experience of being out on the water, surrounded by good company and chasing after these incredible fish.
